DC Fast Charging

DC Fast Chargers (also called Level 3) can add 100-200 miles of range in 20-40 minutes. They're ideal for road trips and quick top-ups.

  • Typical power: 50-350 kW
  • Cost: $0.25-0.45/kWh
  • Best for: Road trips, quick stops

Level 2 Charging

Level 2 chargers add 15-30 miles of range per hour. They're the most common public charger and the standard for home charging.

  • Typical power: 6.6-19.2 kW
  • Cost: $0.10-0.25/kWh
  • Best for: Home, work, shopping

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my car charge slower than the charger's rated speed?

Your EV can only accept power up to its maximum charging rate. A 250kW Tesla Supercharger connected to a Chevy Bolt (max 55kW) will only deliver 55kW. The calculator accounts for this automatically.

Why is charging slower above 80%?

To protect battery health, EVs slow charging significantly above 80% state of charge. For fastest charging, aim for 80% as your target.

How accurate are these estimates?

Estimates are based on manufacturer specs and typical charging curves. Real-world times may vary based on temperature, battery condition, and charger availability.
